Fireplace Guidelines for Architectural Graphic Standards 2007 Edition

World Renowned Fireplace Architect Walter Moberg rewrites Standards for Fireplaces in AGS 2007

PORTLAND, Ore. (October 22, 2007) – Fireplace architect Walter Moberg’s extensive research and knowledge is now available more than ever to the architectural community with the release of Architectural Graphic Standards11th edition.  Architectural Graphic Standards, commonly known as AGS, has served as the number one design resource for architects, engineers and builders for over 70 years.

There have been vast changes in the fireplace industry over the past several decades,” said Moberg.  “And yet, the architectural profession has experienced a diminishing of available design resources and updated construction standards.  I’m thrilled to have shared my expertise and contributed to this valuable professional design tool.”

Moberg’s AGS updates incorporate useful details for new modern construction methods which incorporate cement masonry units (CMU), mineral fiber insulation, air delivery systems and UL-listed metal chimneys, as well as traditional masonry construction utilizing primarily brick and mortar.  Also featured are special details pertinent to modern architectural needs—fireplaces on upper floors, chimney terminations and new cleaner-burning fireplaces.  This last topic will compliment the sustainable construction focus of the 11th edition and provide architects several new tools to design functional and efficient masonry fireplaces.

Moberg worked closely with Tim Shea of Richard Meier & Partners in the initial phases of the update.  Through months of development and continuous refinement, the fireplace section has been expanded to 18 pages in full with over 100 illustrations.  These will be the definitive collection of fireplace design details for architects, engineers and builders for the next decade.

Moberg’s innovative fireplace designs inspire deep graditude from some of North America’s leading architects, like Robert A.M. Stern who wrote Walter in appreciation: “You set high standards indeed, and you are generous to share your expertise with all of us in the profession of architecture.” Mr. Stern’s accolade will reverberate throughout the architectural community as Moberg’s historic knowledge and continual innovations enliven both classical and modern forms of the fireplace with the AGS 11th edition.

Architectural Graphic Standards 11th edition can be purchased through Wiley Publishing here or you can purchase the book and CD here. For more information on Walter Moberg, his extensive fireplace expertise and to see examples of his work, visit www.mobergfireplaces.com
